IPS Goes Back To Napa Valley, California for the Blue Note Jazz Festival
The first-ever outdoor, multi-day, multi-stage Blue Note Jazz Festival was held on July 29th-31st at the Charles Krug Winery in California’s Napa Valley. The innovative event feature keyboardist Robert Glasper in the role of artist-in-residence, with a focus on encouraging cooperation between musicians who already have established personal and professional ties. Hosted by comedian Dave Chappelle, the festival also featured food and wine from Napa Valley.
Performers at this year’s first Blue Note Jazz Festival presented as an outdoor, multi-day and multi-stage event featured a full spectrum of modern Black American music, from jazz to soul to R&B to hip-hop and beyond. Chaka Khan, the Dinner Party with Kamasi Washington, Terrace Martin, and Robert Glasper, special guest appearances from Snoop Dogg, DOMi & JD Beck, Kenny Garrett, Maxwell, yasiin bey & Talib Kweli reuniting as Black Star, and Thundercat. The festival also featured performances by Flying Lotus, The Soul Rebels starring GZA & Talib Kweli, Corinne Bailey Rae, Chief Adjuah, Th1rt3en, Butcher Brown, Isaiah Sharkey, and many more. The outdoor weekend event offered a unique audience experience for Blue Note fans by blending a more typical festival kind of event with the local wine culture of Napa Valley. Not only the wine but meals prepared by some of the most well-known restaurants in the region were also given the opportunity to serve the guests their specialties.
